The station started broadcasting on February 12 1981 at 6:00 pm sharp, at the Sidi Djellul radio tower. It continued for 11 years, before being interrupted by the coup which ousted [[Jalil Al Kharrabi|Al Kharrabi]]. The radio tower operators, refusing to abandon their ideology, transformed the area in a rebel zone. They restarted broadcasts on February 9 1992, the station was active during the day and the night. This continued until the military raid on the radio tower on March 17 1992, which stopped broadcasts from Voice of the Muslim Masses for good. The operators were arrested.
