The Independence Party (Hverlandic: Kavhängighetfolkpartiet; K) is the major contemporary party of the Hverlandic centre-right. As of 2022, Independence is the largest party in the Folktingi, among the nation's local municipalities, and are the fifth largest in the Church Council. The party has been the major coalition parter since the 2022 election, governing with the Farmer-Labour Party, the Christian Democrats, New Future, and the Centre Party. It is the largest party in the right-of-centre Alliance.

Different factions have dominated the Independence Party at different times, although over the past 80 years it has moved from the right-wing more towards the centre. The party advocates economic liberalism such as a reduction of taxes, deregulation, and free trade. The party defines itself as a "conservative party of progress". The party generally supports semi-privatization through state-funded private services, reduced taxes, LGB rights, and tougher law and order measures. Abortion remains a contentious issue within the party, although most members oppose repealing the current ban. The party opposes immigration from non-Western countries, but also advocates for an inclusive civic nationalism.
