Haifan is the third-largest city in Verdusa—after Shanadu and Yerusalahm—with a population of 282,832 in 2021. Built on the slopes of coastal mountains, the settlement has a history spanning more than 3,000 years. The city is a major seaport located on Verdusa's Haifan Sea coastline covering 63.7 km2 (24.6 sq mi). It is the major regional center of eastern Verdusa. Two respected academic institutions, the University of Haifan and the Verdusa Institute of Technology are the oldest and top ranked university Verdusa. The city plays an important role in Verdusa's economy. It is a center of heavy industry, petroleum refining and chemical processing. Haifan formerly functioned as the southern terminus of an oil pipeline from Emmiria.
