Structure of Royal Joseon Armed Forces

The structure of the Royal Joseon Armed Forces is as follows.

Unit Types

• Military District: The only time the Military District was organized was during World War II. During World War II, one Military District in Joseon included 1.5 million troops. Because Japan ultimately failed to land on the mainland Joseon during World War II, the Military District never experienced actual ground combat.
• Field Army: Field Army is a unit that is temporarily organized when necessary. It consists of 3-4 Corps.
• Corps: One corps contains 5-6 divisions or equivalent subunits. Each corps includes support brigades in addition to the subsidiary divisions.
• Division: One division consists of 4 brigades.
• Brigade: The minimum unit for independent operations. One brigade consists of 3-4 battalions.
• Regiment: It's a unit smaller than a brigade and larger than a battalion. A regiment typically consists of 1,600 soldiers. Fewer soldiers belong to the regiment, which is classified as a support unit.
• Group: A group is a unit consisting mainly of special forces or support units, not frontline combat units. The number of troops in the group is fluid, ranging from 1000 troops to a group of up to 3200 troops.
• Battalion: One battalion consists of approximately 400 troops. It typically includes three combat companies and one support company.
• Company: One company consists of 3 platoons.
• Platoon: One platoon consists of three squads. for tanks, 4 tanks make up one platoon.
• Squad: The squad is the smallest unit. 10 soldiers make up one squad.
