Erwin Kemal Özkan (/œz.kan/ Oz-kahn; born September 23, 1999) is a Nivesian politician affiliated with the Forward Party. He currently serves as one of the Nivesian senators representing Texas since 2049. Before his political career, Özkan was an executive producer for NBS.
Born in Fort Worth to a Turkish father and Filipino mother, Özkan was the Forward nominee in the 2049 special election for Texas 6th congressional district, which had long been considered a conservative stronghold. Following his career in the congress, he went for the 2054 Nivesian General Election and nominated himself as the presidential candidate alongside Wade Gilkeson. The election generated national attention, and became the most expensive election in North Laurentian history. Özkan and Gilkeson, backed by the Forward Party, is the first candidate to have won the presidential election not from the National Front. Özkan is soon to be formally appointed as the 3rd president of Nivesia in July 4, 2054.
Early life and education
Özkan was born on September 23, 1999, in Fort Worth, Texas, He was raised in Colleyville, a suburb just north of Dallas-Fort Worth area. His mother, Anna Bayani is a retired Halske manager who immigrated to the United States from Philippines. His father is a professor at the University of Texas who is of Turkish descent. Özkan was raised a Muslim, and claimed to follow the Shafi'i school of tought. Both his paternal ancestor and maternal family immigrated to the United States in the 1960s.
Özkan attended the islamic school Twin Stars Academy in Dallas, Texas. In high school, he was part of the Cinema and Media Society, which also led him to graduate from University of Texas at Austin in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned a Masters of Arts degree in Global Media Industries from the King's College London in 2025.
Early Career
Initially, Özkan worked as a filmographer for a before interning as a switcher operator at channel 8.
