Redemption is a major city in the Blackhelm Confederacy, and was one of the founding cities of the nation after the collapse of the Empire of Exponent. Redemption is the second largest port in Hesperidesia, and is responsible for the bulk of the continent's industrial shipping and oil refining.
Similar to Paradise City, Redemption also has a system of canals spreading throughout the city, ehich serve as a vital mode of transportation and also delineate different neighborhoods throughout the city.
History
Redemption was founded by approximately three hundred members of the second wave of Roman refugees, which arrived in Hesperidesia in 72 AD.
Redemption’s industrial boom in the late 19th and early 20th centuries transformed the city into an industrial capital of the Blackhelm Confederacy. The construction of massive steel mills, refineries, and assembly plants led to rapid urbanization. By the early 20th century, the city's skyline was dominated by towering smokestacks and monolithic skyscrapers, with intricate networks of elevated railways crisscrossing the city.
Economy
Redemption’s economy is heavily reliant on its industrial sector, which produces a wide range of goods, from heavy machinery to advanced weaponry for the Confederacy. The city’s refineries are central to its energy production, processing large quantities of oil each day.
In addition to manufacturing, the city’s economy is bolstered by its strategic position as a transportation hub. The canals and rail systems facilitate the movement of goods throughout the Confederacy, while airship docking stations connect Redemption to other major cities. Recent investments in refining diesel technology have led to the development of more efficient engines, reinforcing the city’s status as the Confederacy’s industrial powerhouse.
Infrastructure
The canal system, historically important for trade, has been modernized and expanded to accommodate larger vessels. These canals remain a vital part of the city’s transportation infrastructure, allowing for the smooth transit of heavy materials between industrial zones. Additionally, Redemption’s airship docking stations enable rapid long-distance travel and freight movement, underscoring the city’s importance as a major transportation hub within the Confederacy.
Sports
Redemption boasts a rich and diverse sports culture, with soccer, boxing, and Formula 1 standing out as the most popular sports. The Redemption Renegades, the city’s pride in the East Astyrian Football League (EAFL), attract large, passionate crowds to their matches, symbolizing the city’s working-class spirit.
Boxing has a storied tradition in Redemption as well, with the sport deeply rooted in the city’s neighborhoods. Numerous boxing gyms are scattered throughout the city, offering youth a chance to train and compete within their communities.
Formula 1
In addition to soccer and boxing, Formula 1 has become a major passion in Redemption. The city is the birthplace of Angelbridge Automotives, a leading car manufacturer in the Confederacy, and a symbol of Redemption's industrial prowess. The company’s origins are deeply tied to the city’s identity, and it sponsors the Circus Augustus Angelbridge, the prestigious motor racing circuit that hosts the Blackhelm Confederate Grand Prix in the Astyrian F1 series.
