From Ancient Greek ϝʜέυκλιθυ (hwéuklithu) from Primitive Menapian hwʉid ("to drive") + clėthʉ ("sword"), from Proto-Brythonic *hwɨβid ("to move") and klėðɨβ̃ ("sword") respectively, from Proto-Celtic *xswibīti ("to move") and *kladiwos ("sword") respectively.
