From Ancient Greek ϝʜɛυκλιθυ (hweuklithu) from Primitive Menapian hwɪʉid ("to drive") + klėthʉ ("sword"), from Proto-Brythonic *hwɨβid ("to move") and klėðɨβ̃ ("sword") respectively, from Proto-Celtic *xswibīti ("to move") and *kladiwos ("sword") respectively.
