The Royal Joseon Air Force is a branch in charge of aerial combat for the Royal Joseon Armed Forces. It is composed of 229,000 active duty troops, and about 577,900 reservists as of 2023.

The Royal Joseon Air Force was officially established on August 1, 1923. In 2015, the Space Command was established to control space assets as a branch of the Air Force.

The Air Force is responsible for controlling air supremacy and supporting the Army and Navy using fighter jets and bombers. The majority of the Air Force's fighter jets are made up of 5th-generation stealth fighters, and the Royal Joseon Air Force is considered one of the most modernized air forces in the world.

The Royal Joseon Air Force, unlike the Army and Navy, adds troops by voluntary recruitment, with no conscription, even for soldiers lower than noncommissioned officers and officers. The Air Force receives applicants from those selected for conscription among Joseon's adult men and selects troops through interviews and additional physical and psychological examinations. Women can apply to join the military as noncommissioned officers or officers, and as of 2023, the proportion of women among officers and noncommissioned officers in the Royal Joseon Air Force was 45 percent.

Organization

The air forces consists of two branches: regular and reserve air forces. The regular air force consists of active duty soldiers and maintains standing air wings. The reserve forces consists of retired reserve forces from active duty, and when the mobilization order is issued, it is called up to form reserve air wings. Reserve forces are called up once a year and trained for three days.

The Air Force is commanded by the Air Force Chief of Staff, who is the highest-ranking general in the Air Force, and will be ordered by the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff follows the orders of the Minister of Defense, and the Minister of Defense follows the orders of the Prime Minister.
