During an experiment to discover a means of interuniversal travel, a group of AE scientists built the Cobbler Gate, a device that was designed to open a portal to the nearest universe. However, instead of creating a stable portal, the gate opened a miniature black hole, pulling objects and people towards it. While no person was transported inside this black hole, objects slammed into the controls and reversed the process and minimized the intensity.
