The 2028 United States presidential election in Michigan was held on November 7, 2028. Gretchen Whitmer, the former governor of the state and her running mate Pete Buttigieg, secured over 36% of the popular vote and won the state's 15 electoral votes, marking the first time since 2016 in which a third party candidate won electoral votes, and the first time since 1968 in which a third party candidate won a state's popular vote. The Whitmer/Buttigieg ticket defeated the incumbent Republican ticket of JD Vance and Ron DeSantis and the challenging Democratic ticket of Gavin Newsom and Cory Booker.
