The Peak of Winds, a supposedly dormant stratovolcano on the Elyrian peninsula, and just 3 km west of Elyria itself, erupted in one of the deadliest volcanic eruptions in world history, spewing forth a deadly cloud of super-heated tephra and gases to an estimated height of 40 km, ejecting molten rock, pumice and volcanic ash at 2 million tons per second. Simultaneously, a massive earthquake ripped through the island of Valentia as well as the Elyrian and Thracian hinterlands, followed by a tsunami that leveled or severely damaged several coastal communities in the Elyrian and Valentian Seas.
