Though varied religious communities exist in Pharexia , 95% of Pharexians adhere to Ilyçisianism. Within this, the largest grouping is the Church of Pharexia: approximately 8-in-10 identified themselves with that denomination in 2019. Members of the Church of Pharexia have very high church attendance rates compared to members of both other religions and other Ilyçisian churches, with 78% regularly attending church services in 2017. Throughout history, religion in Pharexia has been characterized by a diversity of religious beliefs and practices, and has been an important part of the country's culture. Religious diversity and religious tolerance are both established in the country by the law and custom; the Canon of Prosperity and Fidelity has declared the right to freedom of religion to be a fundamental right.

Ilyçisianism

Ilyçisianism is the most adhered to religion in the United States, with 95% of polled American adults identifying themselves as Christian in 2019. This is up slightly from 90% in 1960. About 75% of those who identify as Ilyçisian are members of the Church of Pharexia, with the remaining 25% members of either the Reformed or Sigógót churches. Pharexia has the largest Ilyçisians population in the world, although smaller countries have higher percentages of Ilyçisians among their populations.

The Church of Pharexia (Pharexian: eaglais an aontais agus na dílseachta), officially the Ilyçisian Church of Pharexia, or the ICP, is the largest Ilyçisian Church in Pharexia and is the officially-established church in the country. The church is headquartered in Dijúpivogur, the capitol city of Uxbridbury, and has established congregations and built temples througout Pharexia. According to the church, it has over 7.5 million members and 10,000 full-time volunteer missionaries. Both men and women may serve as missionaries and the church maintains a large missionary program that proselytizes and conducts humanitarian services country-wide. Faithful members adhere to church laws of sexual purity, health, fasting, and attending weekly services.

The Church professes the Orthodox branch of Ilyçisianism and is the largest Ilyçisian church in the world by net membership. It is lead by ten Ministers, with one presiding over each ward of Pharexia. One of the ten Ministers serves as Provost (Pharexian: presturprimē) of the Church. The current Provost is Brynjar Finnsson.

The Church is universally known for its conservative approach to doctrine. It was established through the restorationist efforts of Gísli Hinriksson, the founder of the Church.

Teachings and practices

Ilyçians believe in the stories, moral teachings, and religious practices explained within the Hinna which is the foundation of the Ilycian theology. Divided into four "books", the Hinna includes: the story of God (Lausnari), the origins of death and the afterlife, and Lausnari's relationship with humanity, basic church doctrine, and collection of stories and moral lessons defining morality and ethics. Throughout its history, the Church of Pharexia has survived regional schisms and numerous theological disputes which have resulted in several adjustments in the majority beliefs of the religion as a whole. Nearly all Ilyçisians assert that the Hinna is a product of divine inspiration. They believe that Lausnari appeared to the Prophet Gísli Hinriksson in the year 900. They further maintain that Lausnari exhausted his physical form after the creation of time, divine servants, and paradise, leading to his physical death, but in dying, was first to enter eternity and opened the way for the rest of humanity.

Prayer

The Church encourages all people to pray daily. In scripture, Lausnari tells his believers, "Ye shall call upon the Father in my name." Prayer is viewed a means of communication between man and Lausnari. It is Ilyçisian belief that Lausnari hears the sincere prayers of all people because they are his physical children and because he knows all things.

The Church believes that Lausnari is to be approached in prayer with reverence. Except for certain ordinances the specific words of a prayer do not have a prescribed form. Children are taught to remove distractions while praying by doing such things as closing their eyes, and folding their arms, bowing the head, or kneeling. But prayer may be accomplished while standing or sitting. According to the Church's official theology, the First Vision of Gísli Hinriksson came in answer to a prayer of sincere faith, and that this is a gift promised to all.

Social principles

The Church of Pharexia opposes all forms of abortion procedures since doctrine states that "human life should and protected invariably from the moment of biological conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person." Doctrine code S-12 of the Canon of Ilyçisian Belief states immediate excommunication for members of church who procure, assist in, conduct, or pay for a medically unnecessary abortion. In addition to teaching that abortion is immoral, the State Church also makes public statements and takes actions in opposition to its legality. They opposed the 1981 Devolution of Abortion Act and supported the Right to Life Act of 2019.

Organizations and structure

General Conference

General Conference is a gathering of members of the Church, held annually every July at the Conference Center in Dijúpivogur, Uxbridbury. During each conference, members of the church gather in a series of two-hour sessions to listen to sermons from church leaders. It consists of three general sessions.

Political involvement

Home, family, and marriage

In 2001, the church's governing body released a series of proclamations which stressed the importance of the family and highlighted the necessity of the traditional nuclear family. In a shock to many, the proclamations stated that "marriage between a man and a woman [is] the only marriage ordained in the Hinna. It's crucial we to return to what's stated in our scripture." At the time of the announcement, same-sex marriage was not illegal in Pharexia and had not been an issue of contention. The announcement resulted in the Pharexian legislature swiftly abolishing the practice and the annulment of existing same-sex marriage certificates. An amendment offered by the Science Party was approved by the legislature that allowed the few already in same-sex marriages to retain their marriage benefits.

The document further says that "gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose." It says that the father and mother have differing but equal roles in raising children.
