Éan Airways is the flag carrier airline of Luighne, headquartered at the Trident Complex at Rosdon Airport. It is the largest airline in Luíghne, based on fleet size and passengers carried, ahead of TBD. It is listed on the Asgård Stock Exchange.

Founded in 1938 by the Luighnen Government it began mainly domestic services within Luíghne in 1940. The Airline merged with Luíghnen Air Services in 1952 acquiring their international routes and aircraft. Éan Airways was a founding member of the Open Skies Alliance in 1992 before leaving the Alliance in late June 2016, at a press Briefing later that month Airline CEO Gearóid O'Donovan citing “increased membership fees”.

Each seat features a 13.4" touchscreen personal screen with interactive gaming and audio video on demand, a privacy divider, reading light, storage drawer, noise-cancelling headphones, personal telephone, and laptop power ports.

Alder

Business, Éan Airways’ long-haul business class product, is available on all long haul aircraft. Business features angled lie-flat seats which recline to two metres in length. Each seat includes a 11.4" touchscreen TV monitor with interactive gaming and AVOD, reading light, personal telephone, and laptop power ports. Meal service features three-course meals and a cheese service, or an express menu served shortly after takeoff.

Premium Economy

Premium Economy, is Éan Airways’ premium economy product for long haul flights, which became available on the Herrian 790, Avia 160 and Avia 140-100 in late 2015 and early 2016, and on the Herrian 740 and Avia 140-300XWB in late 2018 and early 2019. It is a dedicated cabin section with a 2-4-2 and 2-3-2 configuration with 38″ pitch (36″ for long haul seats), 123° reclining fixed shell seats, including an adjustable headrest, a 10.4″ touchscreen, personal reading lamp, universal power ports, and an adjustable leg rest (40% more space, compared to Voyageur seats; the seats are 20% wider and offer 20% more legroom). Passengers receive double baggage allowance, priority airport services, lounge access (for a fee), and extra frequent flier mileage. On board, business class amenities include Sennheiser noise-cancelling headphones, an amenity kit (featuring socks, eye mask, toothbrush & toothpaste, and earplugs), improved blankets, and an enhanced meal service with second hot meal, candies, and ice-cream all served with real glass and metal cutlery.

Incidents and Accidents

Since it’s inception in 1940 Éan Airways has suffered 6 hull losses of which 2 have been fatal.

  • On 2 January 1952, a Decan D17 registered EA-OLF crashed 7km after taking off from Athway International Airport flying from Athway to Rosdon killing all 12 passengers and crew onboard and 6 more on the ground. The accident was the airline’s first fatal accident.
  • On 19 December 1960, Éan Airways Flight 14 a Herrian 1A registered EA-ELS flying from Rosdon to Narea airport suffered an explosive decompression whilst cruising at 32,000ft. The aircraft made an emergency landing at Rosdon Airport. No occupants were killed although one Passenger was partially sucked out of the aircraft but pulled back in by flight attendants.
  • On 14 July 1973, Éan Airways Flight 529 a Avia 150-100 registered EA-ANN skidded off the runway at Rosdon Airport whilst landing following a storm. The aircraft came to a rest next to a disused cargo hanger before bursting into flames, 36 People including the first officer and flight engineer, were killed in the fire with one passenger dying in hospital three weeks later.
  • On April 14 1991, a Ruidhrí R04 registered EA-SVN suffered a duel engine failure whilst cruising at 36,000ft from Rosdon O’Maille Airport to Birka International Airport. The charter flight landed safely at Siezenten Airport in Kreissau
  • On October 18 2004, a Herrian H740-200 registered EA-KRS suffered an engine fire whilst taxiing at Rosdon O’Maille Airport. All 187 Passengers and crew on the aircraft was evacuated safely. An investigation into the fire showed poor maintenance by Éan Airways which was the cause of the fire.
  • On March 22 2015, Éan Airways Flight 1161 a Avia A120-500 registered EA-PHS was hijacked by a disgruntled ex-pilot at Athway International Airport. The Hijacker released the forty two passengers and two flights attendants before shooting himsef in the aircraft lavatory.
