Zaihan (Zaihanese: 子罕 Zǐhǎn) is a sovereign state located in eastern Oridia. It is bordered by the Aitic Federation and Sarangol to the north, Korbukistan and Bhasar to the west, Hallada and Hyshon to the south, and Jurzenia and the Amplian Ocean to the east. Zaihan's 913 million inhabitants reside primarily in the eastern coastal region and in the capital Daohai. The country is divided into 14 provinces and four municipalities, which collectively contain 789 districts. Its population makes it the second most populous country in the world.
Zaihan is considered to be one of the historical cradles of civilization, seeing numerous dynasties and cliques over the course of its multi-thousand year history. After the War of Two Summers in the 900s, Zaihan was created as a unified kingdom ruled by the Yao dynasty. Establishing an expansive empire by expanding south into Samho and Yachen, the country remained relatively stable until its involvement in the Great War on the side of the Allianz. The imperial government fell during the Republican Revolution in 1943 and the country withdrew from the war shortly thereafter. The Republican forces battled the Yao loyalists in the ensuing civil war. The Republicans proclaimed victory in 1946, authoring a new constitution that established Zaihan as a democratic republic.
The country is a unitary semi-presidential republic and is often characterized as a developing country under a hybrid regime. Despite decades of stagnation after the fall of the imperial government, the economy expanded following the death of its first President, Ming Sui-Yen. Zaihan is a founding member of the East Oridian Conference and the [[International Assembly (Vierzland)|International Assembly]. The country is constitutionally neutral, albeit maintains a large standing military.

Zaihan is officially a unitary semi-presidential republic. The functions of government are dictated by the Constitution of Zaihan, and more specifically the Articles on the Function of the Republic. The constitution divides governmental power between the High Court (judicial), National Assembly (legislative) and the National Council (executive). The constitution emphasizes the protection of civil and human rights, the rule of law and the preservation of the constitutional republican system.
