Premier Cruise Line Company is a global cruise holding company based in Port Celebration, Alexandrian-Prussian Antilles. It is the second largest cruise line operator after Crown Cruises, Ltd. As of January 2019, Premier Cruise Line Company fully owns three cruise lines Premier International, Southern Cruises, and Regent Cruises. Premier also holds a 20% stake in Dream Cruise Lines.
History
Premier Cruise Line Company was formed in 2007 as a result of being acquired by the Metro Court Hotels. During the merger discussion between then Premier International Inc CEO and Founder Edward Wilson and Metro Court CEO Carly Jasper, the company would become a subsidiary of Metro Court Hotels. But it still be allowed to make its own independent decisions without interference from Jasper or the board of directors at the parent company. Jasper agreed with some minor changes to the deal, which Wilson agreed too, the deal closed in late 2005 as a result Premier International Inc was dissolved and all ships and personnel moved to the newly created Premier Cruise Line Company. Prior to being acquired by Metro Court Hotels, in 2005 Premier acquired the bankrupt cruise line Southern Cruises for AP$50 million in 2003. After acquiring the cruise line Wilson decided to keep the both Premier brand and Southern brand due to them appealing to different type of consumers. Premier appealed more to upscale consumer while Southern appealed better to more budget-conscious consumer.
Premier Cruise Line Company also has an interest in Dream Cruise Line which began operations in 2007 aimed at a family-friendly audience. Dream Cruise Line was originally a joint venture with Dream Company and Crown Cruises, Ltd. However, in 2015 The Dream Company and Premier Cruise Line Company brought Crown Cruises Ltd stake for an undisclosed sum. As a result of the buyout Dream became the majority own of Dream Cruise Line at 80%, while Premier owned the remaining 20%.
In October of 2014 Founder and CEO Edward Wilson announced his retirement from both Premier and The Metro Court Montecito Group board of directors. Carly Jasper CEO and Chairman of The Metro Court Montecito Group announced that Neil Stone would succeed Edward as CEO of Premier.
In 2015 Premier Cruise Line Company acquired Regent Cruises brand and its 3 ships plus 2 under construction from then bankrupt World Travel Industries for AP$750 million. Due to World Travel being bankrupt and all ships were docked so Premier did extensive refurbishments of all 3 ships and redesign all 2 ships at the cost over $1.5 billion dollars. Regent ships started to return to service fall of 2018 through winter of 2019. With the newest ship Regent Empress entering service on February 05, 2020.
