The Mithras Company is a private military company primarily active in Scipia. It consists of some 1,200 ‘military employees’, and a contingent of civilian staff based at its corporate headquarters in Lion's Rock, where it is incorporated.

History

The Mithras Company was established in 1988 by its first chairman, and commander of the military contingent, Sir Peter Mordaunt, heir to the Mordaunt Baronetcy and a considerable family fortune. He was an officer in the Commonwealth Army’s Parachute Regiment upon the death of his father. He resigned his commission to take over the family’s business portfolio, but failed to make much headway. As his companies went into debt, and were sold off or dissolved one by one, he hit upon the idea of leveraging his talent for soldiering into a successful commercial enterprise. As he has previously served in Scipia as part of several peacekeeping contingents, and given the endemic instability of the continent’s political landscape, it was there that he set his sights as to the company’s market. Rumours, which had never been confirmed, speak of the involvement of the Strategic Intelligence Bureau in its formation. The Arthuristan sovereign wealth fund invested heavily in the Company’s initial phase and remains one of its largest shareholders.

The Company had operated successfully in Scipia since the early-1990’s. Its current proprietor and commander is Peter’s son – Sir Sydney Mordaunt, the fifth baronet.

Recruitment

Mithras primarily recruits its untrained personnel are primarily hired from Scipia. In particular, rural Bahktaris and Talakhi Tuareg nomads are especially prized for their hardihood and adaptation to the environment. It also recruits from Belisaria and around the world. These are predominantly ex-servicemen of various militaries worldwide, who are prized for their experience. Veterans of the military of former South Rietumimark form a part of the Company, although most such personnel who seek a second career as a mercenary join the Duklav's Legion instead. Individuals who had fought on the losing side of the Eesti Civil War were also recruited, although few serve in Alpha Company, owing to security concerns.

Doctrine and organisation

The Company is organized as a combined arms mechanized battlegroup. It is primarily based upon variants of the FV 452 Liberator light armoured vehicle platform. With a range of 900km, significantly greater than that of tracked infantry fighting vehicles, the Liberator is highly mobile, does not require tank transporters for long road marches, as well as reliable and simple to maintain in hostile environments and austere logistical conditions. The Company fights best in an environment of medium combat intensity and low force density, allowing it to leverage its mobility and speed of reaction to maximum advantage.

The Company is organized into seven squadrons.

Alpha Squadron contains the headquarters element. It administers the military contingent of the Company (corporate administration is conducted in its Lion’s Rock headquarters), as well as manage its logistics, maintenance and medical assets.

Beta, Charlie and Delta Squadrons are mechanized infantry units. They consist of three rifle platoons, each with four Liberator ICV’s and 39 personnel, plus two company headquarters vehicles for a total of fourteen Liberators per squadron. Each squadron once had a tank destroyer platoon, equipped with four Liberator TDV's. They had been phased out once the infantry vehicles were re-equipped with Sharpshooter Remote Weapon Systems with Vesper missiles attached.

Echo Squadron is an assault gun formation. It is equipped with fourteen Liberator Assault Gun vehicles to provide direct fire support and heavy reconnaissance capabilities to the battlegroup, as well as six TDV tank destroyers.

Foxtrot Battery is an artillery unit, equipped with eight Vulcan AMFG, which replaced the GC-45 howitzer it was initially equipped with when first established. It also has a fire-direction contingent equipped with six Liberator FSV’s.

Gamma Squadron is the battlegroup’s combat support element. It consists of following elements:

  • The assault pioneer platoon provides a basic combat engineer capability.
  • The reconnaissance platoon is equipped with six BMS Weasels.

Finally, there is also an aviation flight, equipped with three ex-Estoni Hind helicopters.
