The Trucial States of the Bashan (Yehud: אמנת מדינות הבשן, Sharahbic: الإمارات المتصالحة للبثانية Al'iimarat Almutasalihat Lilbathania; also known as Trucial States, and The Bashan) was the name the Gallambrian Government gave to a group of federated tribes in western Amutia which had been known as the "Old Land". The name derived from the territories whose principal tribal leaders had signed treaties of peace (also known as truces, hence 'trucial') with the Gallambrian government following the The Bashan Interdiction in 1908. They remained an dependent federation until the treaties were revoked in 1989, after which, they entered into a protective treaty with the Gallambrian Government, and was granted partial autonomy. On 1 January 1990, the federated tribes formed the Bashan Protectorate.
Overview
In April 1908, the Gallambrian Navy Ship, HMGS King George made a port visit to Nemal Aroer, during which its crew were captured and killed, and the vessel was scuttled. After which, Gallambria occupied the region under military governence until 1912 when the Selbourne Treaty was enacted.
In 1932, the Trucial States Council was established to encourage co-operation between the five tribes and the Governor.
Treaty of Mahanaim
Trucial States Council
The Trucial States Council was a forum for the leaders of the tribes to meet, presided over by the Governor. The first meetings took place in 1935, and was held every three months. The Council was purely consultative and had no written constitution and no policy making powers, it provieded more than anything, an avenue for the tribal leaders to air greivences, exchange ideas and agree on common principles. The Gallambrians managed to provoke considerable irritation particularly amongst the leaders of the Salamite tribes, when in 1953 the Governor directed that all Salamites be segregated into a single tribal area, Bani Nasir, and transferred the former tribal area of Dulaim to the Yehudim, who renamed it Banu Harith. According to the Governor's reports on the matter, this was entirely due to the dwindling Salamite population in Dulaim due to casualities incurred during the 2nd Arab Revolt.
