The West Phoenician government under the direction of Queen Jezebel Tasman-Bush voted in favour of the formation of the Un-West Phoenician Activities Committee and the West Phoenician Committes People's Court.
The committee was established to investigate alleged disloyalty and subversive activities on the part of private citizens, public employees, and organisations who pose a threat to the peace and stability of the West Phoenicia.
The committee was given authority under The Un-West Phoenician Activities Committee Act 2000 to investigate alleged suspects than order them to appear before the West Phoenician Committee's People's Court to face trial that could result in imprisonment or death.
The committee also has the power to shut down political parties and organisations deemed un-West Phoenician or poses a threat to the nation's security.
The committee was granted powers to act outside of the constitutional framework to do their job properly.
The committee falls under the portfolio of the Ministry of Homeland Affairs, and works alongside The West Phoenician Security and Intelligence Office.
Between the year 2000 to 2010 more than 40,000 citizens appeared before the committee on charges of subversive actions against Queen Jezebel Tasman-Bush. The queen used the committee to silence political parties, Members of the clergy, disgraced members of the aristocracy and any other citizen who spoke out against her, or was perceived to be working with her enemies to dethrone her and distablise West Phoenicia.
Since 2010 there have been calls from civil liberties groups to disband the committee and it's puppet court.
Emperor Glenton Gryphon-Bush II justifies the continued operation as a measure of security to protect the nation from domestic terrorists and spies.
Committee members are nominated by the West Phoenician Security and Intelligence Organisation and are approved by the reigning Monarch.
A member holds the position as committee member for life or until resignation or dismissed.
