Dragomir Zhelev (Galanian: Драгомир Желев) is a former Syaran politician and statesman who served as the Executive of the Syaran Commonality from 2000 to 2009.
Zhelev was born in Myzova in Galania in 1951 to a moderately successful family of farmers. According to his official autobiography Zhelev spent most of his childhood helping his family run the farm and exploring the nearby forests despite warnings not to do so. Zhelev later enrolled in the University of Myzova, graduating in 1975. During his time in university Zhelev became heavily involved in the Warden Way and after graduation joined several local organizations calling for the toppling of the Monarchies of Galania and Makedon. Following the outbreak of the Refusal War Zhelev volunteered for the Warden cause and over the course of the war rose in status and position among the Warden elite. Following the end of the war and the establishment of the Commonality, Zhelev began an important public official for the government, resulting in his appointment as Deputy Minister of Regional Development in 1990. He was later appointed Minister of Public Administration in 1994.
After a decade in the civil service Zhelev was voted into office as the Executive of the Syaran Commonality. His 9 year tenure is the longest of any Syaran Executive. Most focus on his time in office is spent on the Zemplen War. which broke out in 2008. Zhelev, a staunch Warden, has often been criticized as promoting a nationalist policy that contributed to the outbreak of the war. Zhelev's leadership during the war has also been subject to criticism, namely his failure to drum up international support for Syara and his poor handling of the Syaran economy and government. As the war progressed Zhelev did little to alleviate Syara's growing shortages of manpower and strategic resources, and following the repulsion of the Syaran Commonality Armed Forces from Ruvelka in mid-2009, Zhelev was forced to sue for peace. His administration collapsed shortly thereafter facing a vote of no confidence and Zhelev resigned. He has since then refrained from the public eye and has not sought any further involvement in Syaran politics.
