The FDI Group/Midlonian Aerospace CASM (Common Anti-Ship Missle, generally called the Cassem) is an all-weather, over-the-horizon, subsonic anti-ship missile in service with the Freethinker Commonwealth and Midlonia. The weapon was developed as a joint project between FDI Group and Midlonian Aerospace, under the auspices of the JDC, and was one of the first projects to come to fruition as a result of that bodies' establishment.
The Cassem is a subsonic, turbojet powered missile designed primarily to mission-kill escort sized vessels (1,000 to 5,000 tonnes) and harass and hamper larger vessels through equipment and sensor neutralisation. It relies on a low-visibility design and a sea-skimming flight profile in order to avoid detection and destruction by anti-missile defences.
Development
The Cassem was the result of a number of seperate requirements from both governments for a light weight surface to surface weapon. The four initiatives that eventually coaslesced into the CASM program were;
- RNR - 144: GRN requirement for a lightweight self guided SSM for escort combatant self defence.
- RNR - 151: GRAF requirement for an air-launched stand off weapon for fighter-bomber and attack aircraft with beyond-the-horizon capability.
- PNR - 266: FRN requirement for a self guided Rhineback SSM replacement for lighter surface combatants
- PNR - 268: FRN requirement for a carrier-aircraft borne ASM, similar in performance requests to RNR - 151.

Current Models
- CASM - V Mod.1/2/3
The Cassem V is the current ship-launched design, the various model numbers denoting the boosted Canister and VLS launch versions.
- CASM - A Mod.4
The air-launched version is in service with the GRAF and FRAF.
- CASM - S Mod.3
The latest iteration of the submarine launched weapon is in service with various units of the FRN and GRN.
