Budget

Fratanica has a fairly large military budget of $56.3 billion NSD, or 1.4% of total GDP. The high military budget allows for state-of-the-art military innovation and rapid modernization of the armed forces.

Nuclear weapons

Fratanica is estimated to possess 200+ nuclear warheads, with around 110 of them being operationally available for 9 Sentinel-class nuclear submarines. However, the actual number of nuclear warheads is classified. The warheads are meant to act as a deterrent against any belligerent powers. The nuclear submarine fleet is maintained by the Fratanican Navy, which keeps at least one Sentinel-class nuclear submarine out at sea at all times. Fratanica also operates a series of inter-continental ballistic missiles, stored in missile silos across Fratanica.

Fratanica does not possess any other weapons of mass destruction.

Overseas territories

Fratanica maintains a small military presence on Whitney Island, Augustine Island, and Hersatz Island. Each island has a singular home security regiment, with members being recruited from their respective islands.

Fratanica also maintains a moderately-sized Fratanican Navy outpost on its sole autonomous territory, Aspera, together with a singular home security regiment.

Recruitment

Soldiers for the Fratanican Armed Forces are often recruited from within Fratanica itself, either from its citizens or recognized permanent residents. Citizens from overseas territories are also welcome within the FAF's ranks. To be recruited, the prospective recruit must be at least 17 years old (and must get parental permission if under 18). The minimum length of service that must be completed by every service member is 6 years. According to the Ministry of Defense, the yearly intake of recruits has been 14,360 (12 months to May 2019).
