The National Assembly is the legislative body of the Christian Republic of Belac. It is composed of two chambers: the Kalbos (lower chamber) and the Senate (upper chamber).
The Kalbos is made up of 249 members from 83 electoral districts, elected every three years by single-transferable vote. The Senate has 50 members who are citizens of at least 30 years of age, chosen randomly by sortition every year.
Members of the Kalbos meet every weekday in the House of Salvation, and can create and repeal legislation. The Senate meets once a week, typically every Friday, and has one function: voting on laws that have been passed through the Kalbos. For a piece of legislation to pass into law it must be passed by a simple majority of both the Kalbos and the Senate (this requires 125 Kalbos votes and 26 Senate votes).
