Elstock (Elstocker: Elstók), officially the Free City of Elstock (Elstocker: Wòlny Gard Elstók; German: Freie Stadt Elstock), is a city state [WIP]
Etymology
Numerous linguists attest that the native name of Elstock (Elstók in Elstocker) derives from the Slavic term Elstoc (*els-tokŭ, or "fork of the Els"), named after the river Els that runs through the city before draining into the Bay of Elstock. Before the Elstocker language was standardized in the 19th century, the port previously appeared in documents as alternatively Elstik, Alztyk, Elztuk, and Elczók.
The German Elstock is also assumed to be derived from the original Slavic term, and has in the past appeared as Elsstok, Elßtok, Alstock, or Elztock in various historical documents.
