The festival was once again organized by the authorities of Radio Zafizamarrah. However, the authorities took an unusual (albeit not rare) decision to not host the competition in Metropolitan Zafizamarrah. Mahmuddayn is the fifth largest city in the region of Zafizamarrah as of 1996 (as of 2021, it's the seventh) with the population of 263,222 according to 1996 census. Located on the coast of the the southern North Alezia, It used to be a vacation spot for the Sultanate's family where every summer, the family would visit the place from the beginning of their reign until European colonization. From the Europeans' era, the town developed into a tourist spot. However, during the Iliyan Dictatorship's reign, the town lost it's tourism status until the democracy era arrived. Since then, Mahmuddayn regathered it's tourism town status and is currently (as of 2021) the 9th most visited city in North Alezia and 17th in the newly reunified Alezian Union.

The venue selected for the event is the Sultan Mahmud Performing Arts Centre. The name of the centre came from the shortest-reigning and the only male to ever be the Sultan of Zafizamarrah. Before it's renovation in 1997, the centre has a seating of 2,654 people. The centre does not have an orchestra pit, and such one had to be made on the center of the stage behind the performers.

Double back-to-back 6th placer Jennie Carlson returned representing her region of Bristol once again, creating banter speculation that Jennie was going to earn 6th place again. Elkii Kaaruvinen who got second last year also returned representing Daya Island.

Tanalessa Danayanie who represented Aramna and got 14th place in the 1970 festival also returned representing her region again. And more surprisingly, Ali Hasmaruddin returned to the competition after previously competing representing Basna in the first edition of the festival back in 1958 and earning 9th place.

AleziRadio Festival of Songs 1996 is the thirty-ninth edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. The competition was held as usual in 16th of May 1996 by the authorities of Radio Zafizamarrah. This is the fifteenth time that the region of Zafizamarrah hosted the competition after the victory of Arfin and The Four representing Zafizamarrah with the song "على ماذا حصلت؟".

The festival was once again organized by the authorities of Radio Zafizamarrah. However, the authorities took an unusual (albeit not rare) decision to not host the competition in Metropolitan Zafizamarrah. In this case, Radio Zafizamarrah holds a bidding round to the outlying interested cities. In the bidding process, three cities were shortlisted: Mahmuddayn, Iskandaruddin, and Nafizarran. In the process, Mahmuddayn was selected.
