AtlanticaOil is a state-owned Atlantican petroleum and natural gas company headquartered in Stórkostlegurborg. It is both a vertically integrated and horizontally integrated company with operations in Atlantica and other countries. It has a revenue of ∑17,9 billion Króna, or $44,75 billion USD (Universal Standard Dollars) and controls upstream petroleum production in Atlantica (known as the Production Division, and by far its largest operation), midstream petroleum transport within Atlantican borders (known as the Transportation Division), and downstream refining and distribution in a wide range of countries (this division is known as the Distribution Division, and all of its Petroleum is supplied by the Production Division), as well as all natural gas operations within Atlantica.
AtlanticaOil was founded in 1925 following the nationalization of oil and natural gas by the government of Gunnar Ólafursson. Although it only originally had downstream and midstream operations, it later expanded to upstream operations in the 1960s following the discovery of petroleum in 1963.
The company is entirely owned and controlled by the Atantican government. From 1989-2005, 30% of stocks were traded on the Atlantican Stock Exchange, but the government of Matteus Gunnlaugsson, as led by Lawspeaker of Energy Brynjar Stefánsson, renationalized these shares in September 2005.
