2004 October attacks
On October 12, 2004, three armed men entered the Grand Pines hotel in Hamilton, D.C, and began shooting. Eleven hotel guests were fatally wounded or killed, with six injured.
This led to the creation of the Homeland Security Act of 2004, a congressional act which formed the Department of Homeland Security.
