Overview of Tlord
History of Tlord
Duchy of Tlord
The Duchy of Tlord was formed in 553 AD. During the dark age of 100-1032 AD, multiple banditry factions raided villages and smaller towns along the eastern borders of the Doell Sea. With Duke Taras Olept, large fortresses along the coast were erected in hopes of stopping the raiders. Although they did eventually get defeated with help, it left a lasting impact on the Duchy. In 1039, the peoples of Western Tlord rose up against the Duchy and toppled the weak nation. Though the Tlordian states were quickly annexed by neighboring nations, the people quickly formed smaller states to reconquer the old territories of the Tlordian Duchy.
The Hetmanate of Tlord
Middle Ages
The Hetmanate of Tlord was founded 1167 AD, in the southern reaches of the great expanse of south-eastern Westonchar. By 1167, small city-states fought against each other vying for the land that was once unified. When the first Hetman took control: Hetman Boraschak Terekhov, he and the other smaller states surrounding Tlord defended against the invading Garsk armies. It was in the Battle of Aporopol in 1172, that decided the war for the Tlordian people which resulted in a Tlordian victory. After Aporopol, Hryhorij Eduardovych of Chegrosk led his army towards the last Garsk fortress on Tlordian soil; Körvas. It was most possibly the bloodiest battle until "The Grinder" in 1895. The battle and smaller skirmish following it caused many surrounding Lords and Barons to ally with the advancing Tlordians to keep their aristocratic titles. The war evented in a Tlordian victory when the first armies set foot on previously Garsk soil. As a result of victory, they gained a lot of land to the eastern borders along Tlord. As more land was available for farming, more peasants flocked to the land making the western provinces overpopulated. When Hetman Admon Tolok rose to power in 1205, he established multiple reforms for the underclass. This weakened the already disorganized rebellion, and eventually crushed it in 1219.
Early Modern Era
By about 1534 AD, most villages had been populated so much that the main cities began issuing heavy taxes on the amount of children in a household. In response, multiple towns split from Tlord and established their own Kingdom; "Kingdom of Chesk" ruled by the previous councilor of a city in the kingdom, Bratisrad. By 1602, the Tlordian hetmans grew increasingly mad at the small kingdom that they began to amass large armies at the borders in a show of force. Although the Cheskans were not happy with their only neighbor beginning to cut down on exports of grain and wine, they had to give in eventually as several Tlordian armies sieged their capital city of Bratisrad. Though the Tlordian army was defeated after the siege and the Kingdom of Chesk annexed a corridor of land to it's east giving access to the sea of Doell. Tlord was now famed for their coal and steel production to the north of the mines, which lead Tlord to gain a seat on the Eastern council. Thus ending the Hetmanate of Tlord in 1802.
Democratic States of Tlord
The Democratic States of Tlord were formed by the first democratic elected leader; Viktor Artemovych in 1811. He enacted multiple controversial laws that bring about the end of many aristocratic titles.
