The Lihnidosi Armed Forces are the unified military forces of Lihnidos. The Lihnidosi Armed Forces are comprised of three primary branches, the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The Armed Forces are headquartered in the Ministry of National Defense in the Lihnidosi capital city of Arcadia. The Armed Forces began as a land-based fighting force in 1754 following the creating of a unified Lihnidosi Empire in 1753. By 1922 the Lihnidosi military had evolved into its current form, with its primary three branches under the control of the monarch with oversight by the elected representatives in the National Assembly.
The Armed Forces are ultimately under the control of the monarch, who is given the authority by the constitution as commander-in-chief. The day-to-day operations of the Armed Forces are carried out by both professional military and civilian personnel, with the top civilian leader being the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister’s chief representative at the Ministry of National Defense is the Secretary of State for National Defense, who is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the Prime Minister. The monarch has the authority to fill all other civilian leadership roles in the Ministry of National Defense and often appoints individuals suggested by the Prime Minister. The National Assembly holds additional oversight powers over the Armed Forces.
The Armed Forces are a professional military force that rely solely on volunteers. As of 2017 there is an estimated total of 187,000 active duty personnel and approximately 41,000 reserve personnel across the three main branches. The Imperial Guard, the arm of the Armed Forces charged with protecting the monarch and other nobility, had an approximate total of 12,500 active duty personnel as of 2018.
