History
The Rendakios-Rhadenos family is one of the oldest and most distinguished noble families in Mesogeia. The family originated sometime in the 7th century but they did reach noble status until the following century in 719 when a certain Sisinnios Rendakis was risen to the rank of Lord by Emperor Chosroes II. The Rendakis family served as lords of Lycaonia for close to two-centuries. In 1030 the Lords of Lycaonia were risen to the rank of Duke of Lycaonia. By the start of the 11th century the Rendakis line died out in the male line. In 1131 the title of Duke of Lycaonia was revived when it was granted to Bardas Rhadenos, a descendant in the female line of the last Rendakis duke.
When Bardas was granted the title of Duke of Lycaonia he decided to add his mother's maiden name of Rendakios to that of his own, owing to the lasting legacy of the Rendakis clan.
