Template:Infobox Settlement Saint Sarah (Elyrian: 'Ryre Sarah') is the second largest city in Maszale. With 509,334 people living within city limits and 2,934,492 living in the Greater St. Sarah area, it is also the 6th largest city in Kathia.

History

Early History

Saint Sarah was established as a fort by Elyrian troops around 37 BCE. After the Calamity, the area was under the control of the Duchy of Maszale, and later the Kingdom of Ivadia when Maszale conquered Brezantia. The Kingdom of Ivadia was conquered by the Kingdom of Ravonne in 906, and the Kingdom of Ravonne formed into the Kingdom of Kathia in 907.

Modern History

the city was named St. Sarah in 771 by King Vourszas II of Ravonne, after Sarah of Kourveda. The city numbered a few hundred residents (some sources claim about 300-400 people in the town). It was a fortified town, however the walls were slowly torn down with the last remaining section destroyed during the Second World War. The city grew of importance during the renaissance for its silk trade, which flowed through the city on the River Bourvane. The city was also important for art, as many artists and sculptors lived in the city during this time.

The city erputed in violence during the Kathic Revolution, with anti-revolutionaries attacking the town hall and sacking it. The Revolutionary Army eventually put down the revolt, and it is sometimes referred to as a "revolt against the revolt".

The city grew to be important during the Industrial Revolution, with cloth factories opening during the 1830s and 40s. The city remained untouched from the First World War, and no fighting broke out in the city during the Battle of Kathia. However the city was the scene of heavy fighting during Operation Lion Claw, in which much of the city center was destroyed. The city was, however, liberated by June 1944. The city center was rebuilt as a modern city, and not rebuilt to its old style to the dismay of many. However much of the rest of the city was rebuilt in its former style.

Geography

Cityscape

St. Sarah has over 40 neighborhoods, some of which have been in existence for several hundred years. The newer parts of the city, such as the newer downtown and midtown districts developed after World War 2, follow a grid plan or are planned out, in contrast to older parts of town which do not.

Climate

The climate of St. Sarah features mild winters, with warm, mild summers. It's relative distance from the Cavordans gives it a contrasting oceanic climate. It features a rather wet climate, with lots of rain. Snow is not uncommon, and the city typically receives about 20 days of snow each year.

The rather wet and mild climate allows for more exotic plants such as the Zhenian windmill palm, as well as sequoia and magnolias from the Americas.
