Chandchhari's history begins in 1679, when the French occupied what is now Chittagong. At the end of 1679 and the beginning of 1680 they had most of the territory under their control, exercising a protectorate and baptizing it as the French India Company.
In later years, the French built schools, churches, and theaters. The idea was to introduce the natives to French ideals and subject them to culture.
The first uprising against colonial power occurred in 1702, which was severely suppressed, with several thousand deaths, according to estimates.
In 1705, a group of students rose up against the colonial administration and after a few days they allegedly disappeared.
