Construction began in March 1975, were halted from May 16 1977 to May 31 1977 due to political instability issues, then finished on April 14 1982, the official date of Dar Al Hamma's metro opening. The metro spanned from Al Jazira Station at the western end and Frik Station at the eastern end. The metro line 1 was extended to the Observatory in June 1985 and took its actual form.
