Coarsia (From the coarsian Koakriat or Koakria, meaning "Kingdom of Coars"), or the Union of Coarsian States, is a nation in Boronoth. It is the largest nation in the world, with its territories measuring at an outstanding 4,244,001 square miles (10,991,910 km2). Coarsia extends through 4 different timezones. Despite it's massive size, however, Coarsia is a very tumultous state that is often plagued by infighting and horrendous civil wars that led to the nation never truly being able of excerting its power to the rest of the world. Despite its massive size, Coarsia is very sparsely populated due to the naturally occuring phenomenon known as "The Winterfell" that plagues most of northern Boronoth, with it's population being estimated in 21,287,793 by 1785.

Coarsia is coloquially known as "The Land of the Eternal Winter" due to it being perpetually on temperatures below 10° Celsius, Coarsia's population is mostly spread out through the much more temperate and easy to live in south, along the Gildenwelter Coast and the rivers Samu and Milok. Coarsians are known as rugged people, with the coarsian culture often favouring bravery, intelligence and cunning rather than other values such as compassion and kindness. Coarsians usually are characterized as very proud people with a strong sense of ambition, bravery and family. Corsia is divided among seven major houses and an almost infinite range of minor houses, going from the smallest of barons to powerful dukes subject only to their King and the Emperor himself. Some of the most prominent ones would be the Barristers, ruling in the far north of the nation, the Mongraws, ruling in the southeast, the Waynepitts, ruling in the west, and the Casterlies, current holders of the empire.

Coarsia is also home to one of the rarest species of birds in the planet; the Blue Feathered Stork, also known as the Coarsian Stork. The Blue Feathered Stork is characterized due to its intense blue plumage with small white feathers dotted throughout the lower belly of the Stork.

Coarsians first arrived at Boronoth during the first ice ages of Oradon. It is believed that back then Boronoth was much similar to how it is today, yet, a natural crossing of ice (Possibly in between modern day Pantericos and western Boronoth) made it possible for humans to traverse on foot to the continent. The first unified coarsian state, known as the Hanukriat, emerged some time during the late VI century CE. The Hanukriat lasted approximately 150 years and spanned through most of the eastern coast of Boronoth, specifically around the Gulf of Dravar, one of the most prominent sweet water sources in all of Boronoth. The Hanukriati people are considered the first true coarsians, and the Hanukriat's cultural impact on eastern Boronoth is still seen today, as all major cultures both inside the Coarsian Union and the rest of eastern Boronoth claim ancestry from the Hanukriat. The Hanukriat eventually disintegrated, giving way for the Rusarkriat to take over in the year 822 CE. The Rusarkriat was led by the Rusar Dynasty, whom managed to solidify what is still considered today as the coarsian homeland. The Rusars would continue expanding, going westward in search for more suitable land for farming and herding. It was under the Rusars that the territories of Mirkol and Chernia were incorporated into the union, following the Tegegonic Invasion in 991 CE. By the XIII century CE, the Rusars were expelled from ruling the coarsians following the weak rule of Gnar IV and the Torvegian Dynasty took over. The Torvegians hailed from Torvar, a large city to the southwest of Coarsia that still stands to this day. The Torvegians, led by King Aedgir I, successfully reconquered Mirkol and Chernia (Which had revolted against the Rusars shortly before their collapse) and promulgated the formation of the Coarsian Empire. However, shortly after the death of Aedgir, the Torvegians would fall from power after Aedgir's son and heir, Gustav I, died prematurely without leaving behind a clear heir. In the ensuing succession crisis, the Torvegians were officially destroyed and their lands seized by the neighboring Mongraw dynasty, and the Casterlies took over the emperorship of Coarsia in 1314 CE, though their rule wasn't fully cemented until the reconquest of most of the noble houses in 1344. The Casterly Dynasty is the longest ruling dynasty in coarsian history, as their rule continues to this day. Though the capabilities of their rulers and ability to govern has in many instances been questioned, no other noble house has been strong enough up to this point to pose a serious treath to the Casterly hold over the emperorship of Coarsia.

The modern coarsian state is considered by many as an underdeveloped nation, but one that has great potential due to the gigantic territory they control as well as the steel mines located at the north of the country, which are widely considered to be the largest sources of steel in the entire world. The country is governed as an authoritarian oligarchy, with a handful of nobles and the emperor excerting absolute power over the nation. The "Brainshaver" (More commonly, Brainsh) or Noble Parliament serves as the primary lawmaking body of the country, as well as the main regulatory body in national affairs. It is comprised of the head of each of the seven houses, the Mongraw, Waynepitt, Barristers, Gorian, Marsel, Ialpaturr and Yrian, as well as the emperor himself. The "Trinshaver" or Lower Parliament serves as a regulatory of it's noble counterpart, though its authority is greatly diminished, it is comprised of 120 representatives of lower nobles and 50 representatives of the City of Magnolia.

Ranked worldwide, the Coarsian economy ranks as the fifth largest by nominal GDP and the third largest by GDP (PPP). It has the largest iron and steelworking industry in the world, as well as massive unexploited oil and natural gas reserves in the northernmost territories. Coarsia has a very large army, however, it is severely unproffesional due to the noble's reluctance to grant the emperor the right to have a standing army.

Etymology

The name Coarsia comes from the coarsian Koakriat (Though some scholars dispute that it actually comes from Koakria), which can be translated directly to "Kingdom of the Coars". It is said that the Coars were an ancestral people that inhabited the lands that today are Coarsia roughly around the II to VI centuries CE, until they were expulsed by the first Hanukriats during the early VII century. Little is known of the Coars, though we do know that they were fairly good metallurgists as armor sets, swords, shields and even some more advanced constructs such as obelisks, monoliths and doors made out of iron and other metals have been found sparsely across modern day Coarsia, though it is unknown if those were the true functions of said constructs as only disjointed pieces and parts have been found. Famously, archaeologist Gustav Lemkirk proposed that these constructs were actually hung up from cave roofs, though many archaeologists refute this theory stating that there's no clear evidence for such a thing.
