The Copa Nacional de Maracana was first hosted in the Apertura 2023 season of the LPFM, and it proved to be a great success in entertainment. Smaller teams managed to fight their way up the order, and challenge for the title. In Group A, (at the time) 1-time national champion Real Premiostenango was eliminated by Deportivo Txirrulitaflám following a defeat against "Los Txirruferos" on the final group matchday. In Group B, Unión de Concepción went on a memorable run, but sadly didn't make it past the group consisting of LDJ and Premiostenango FC. | |||
The subsequent semifinals were filled with action, LDJ managing to beat Rubizalilla 3-1, and Txirrulitaflám managed to beat Premiostenango FC on penalties. | |||
