As Nakong's first prime minister and founder of the Self-Determination Congress, Harold Lam is often seen as the father of Paisha nationalism

Paisha nationalism is an ethnic nationalist social movement and political ideology in Nakong and, to a much smaller extent, Shangea which highlights the unique cultural and linguistic heritage associated with the Paisha family of languages. Paisha nationalists believe in the importance of preserving the Paisha language through educational and regulatory efforts, while often also advocating for autonomy or independence for parts of the Paisha homeland (particularly Nakong). Paisha nationalism can be seen as a direct rejoinder to Shangean chauvinism and Shangean unionism, which instead posits that Paisha and other minority are part of a wider Shangean monoculture.

Supporters of Paisha nationalism typically conceive of a Paisha homeland which includes Nakong and the Shangean provinces of Luoyuan, Nanqing and sometimes Heping. While Paisha nationalism is a movement that applies to the whole of the Paisha homeland, it is largely limited to Nakong where it is the official ideology of the ruling Self-Determination Congress. Conversely, Paisha nationalism faces ostracism and state opposition in Shangea, rendering it a fringe ideology with little organized support. As such, Paisha nationalism is often conflated with Nakongese nationalism, with the Paisha language often called by the name 'Nakongese' (Shangean: 内江话; Morwall romanization: noi6 gong1 wa6) in Nakong.

In Nakong, Paisha nationalism has translated into compulsory public education in Nakongese, extensive public subsidies for traditional Paisha cultural activities, and strict naturalization laws which require fluent command of either Nakongese or Estmerish to apply for citizenship.
