The Principatus system was a semi-feudal system in Astyria practiced by the Empire of Exponent and the Latin Kingdoms of Hesperidesia.
Under the system, merchants and settlers were encouraged to established trading posts and settlements abroad, and were given virtually free reign to rule their newly established territories as they pleased. In return for tax payments to the Imperial crown and docking rights for Imperial vessels, settlements were guaranteed protection by the Imperial Exponential military.
