The Dependency of Nelannemar is a dependent territory of the Jarldom of Rousein. The capital and largest city of Nelannemar is Gekongessenadt. Nelannemar has been inhabited at intervals over the last 2,500 years by Arctic peoples whose ancestors migrated there from the northern coast of Celesterra. The Rouseiner colonization of Nelannemar began in the 19th century with the colonial settlements of Gekongessenadt, Arnollane, Maren Helumin, and Gekof. Gekof was mainly a penal colony on the remote island of Gekoflan used to exile prisoners and use them for penal labor. Making the separate island of Gekoflan in contrast to the mainland Nelannemar more populated by the Outremer Rouseiners than by the Nelannemaric native Lenaallit population. In the 20th century, the Rouseiner government and Rouseiner corporations started to extract valuable resources that were found on Nelannemar such as silver, oil, coal, copper, gold, lead, precious stones, rare-earth elements, uranium, and zinc. The Rouseiner government granted partial home rule to Nelannemar in 2016. Nelannemar has gradually assumed responsibility for several governmental services and areas of competence. The Rouseiner government retains control of citizenship, monetary policy, and foreign affairs, including defense. Most residents of Nelannemar are Lenaallit.
