oldest son of third wife
Prince Ming Wei is the youngest son of the Divine Emperor and his second consort, [[Yanmei Xia, Consort of Jin Yi|Yanmei Xia]]. At fifteen years of age, he is also one of the youngest of the Imperial Children other than his younger twin sisters. His father, Emperor Taizou, bestowed upon him the second name ''Ming'', rendering his full name ''Gangzhou Ming Wei''', and which will eventually become the surname of his descendants for his own branch of the family, as he has not been formally designated as his father's heir. Prince Wei is known for his love of books and learning, spending much time in the Imperial Library buried amongst dusty tomes and volumes. He is also an avid enjoyer of video games and sponsors his own e-sports team. In matters of succession, he has notably kept quiet and not attempted to intervene in his older brother's attempts to curry favor with their father, though he has many quiet supporters amongst the palace staff as he is known for treating those of lesser rank well.

Though he has remained out of any succession disputes, he has also declined to declare support for either Prince Yao or Prince Hsu, firmly declining to take part in the succession competition. Wei is somewhat insulated due to his close friendship with his half-brother, Liú Jié, who is the known favorite of his elder brother Liú Hsu, one of the main candidates for succession. The two are often to be found together, which has created salicious rumors about the nature of their relationship. Though a prince, he lacks the ruthless and ambitious nature of his siblings and his mother is perpetually concerned that he will one day be either cast aside or killed as his father grows older and the day of his declaration of a successor draws nearer. He has brushed aside her concerns so far, not being fully convinced of either of his brother's resolve to truly do what must be done. Though he has not declared support for any of his siblings, his special relationship with a member of the Liú branch has earned him the suspicion of the Vong branch.
