Bāshèngshān officially the Republic of Bāshèngshān is a country located in East Asia, occupying the island of Formosa and other 168 islands. The capital of the country is Nanching, seat of the government, and it works as a unitary parliamentary constitutional republic.
History
Bāshèngshān was founded on March 1, 1984, by Chen Binghao. Chen had been a Kuomintang general who had fought against the Chinese Communists during the Chinese Civil War. After the Communists won the war in 1949, Chen fled to Taiwan. In 1959, he was appointed as the governor of Kinmen.
As governor of Kinmen, Chen became increasingly disillusioned with the Kuomintang government. He believed that the Kuomintang was not doing enough to support the people of Kinmen, and that it was not committed to the goal of establishing an independent Taiwan republic.
In 1984, Chen declared Kinmen independent from Taiwan and established the micronation of Bāshèngshān. Chen said that Bāshèngshān would be a 'beacon of hope' for the people of Taiwan, and that it would show the world that Taiwan was capable of self-governance.
The Kuomintang government was furious with Chen's declaration of independence. It sent troops to Kinmen to suppress the rebellion, but Chen and his supporters resisted. The fighting lasted for several days, but the Kuomintang troops were eventually defeated.
Bāshèngshān has been a de facto independent nation since 1984. It has its own government, currency, and flag. However, it is not recognized by any other country.
