Entries participating within the Contest must first submit their acts to the broadcaster within a set submission period, from where the committee overlooking the contest will pick out songs to be added to the official line-up to perform within the show, some artists may be invited by the broadcaster to participate within the contest. According to the contest rules, the broadcaster of the show may choose to deny an artist or entry from performing within the contest at their own discretion.

The contest was initially hosted in the internal studios of AIM before hosting rights were eventually handed over to competing venues in several major cities across Plangainer, while the rights to host the grand final were given to Phoenix Arena in a multi-year contract agreement to share hosting rights with AIM and selected locations.

Host venues for each year's Melodine are chosen through elimination rounds by the Broadcaster during the bid race to host the Contest, according to the rules of the Broadcaster, venues cannot host the event twice in a row.
