Etymology

From Middle Menapian xweu, from Old Menapian xwiu, xwiuïd ("to drive, to push; to charge; to assault") from Primitive Menapian hwʉid ("to move; to drive; to push"), from Proto-Bythonic *hwɨβid ("to move"), from Proto-Celtic *xswibīti ("to move). Cognate with Welsh chwifio, Breton fiñval ("to move; to shift; to flick; to twich"). Borrowed by Latin as hveuclithus and hveuclethus, from Primitive Menapian hwʉid + clėthʉ ("sword"), see here for further descendants.
