Nilena Thalor, often simply called 'Nilena', or 'the Beacon', is the capital and largest city of Ilethlean, an imperial province of the Amadorian Imperium. Nilena Thalor is the chief city of the Nilena-Lenora Metropolitan Area, the largest in Ilethlean. The city is the preeminent politcal, cultural, and scientific center in the province. It is considered one of the most important cities in the Imperium and serves as the political and diplomatic heart of Levanora, the region in which Ilethlean is located. The city is home to numerous cultural and educational facilities, such as the Grand Beacon, the largest repository of historical archives in Ilethlean and the second largest in all of the Imperium.
Nilean Thalor is located on the island of Thalor in the Smoking Sea, formerly a lake before the construction of the Azure Canal. It rests along the Smoking Harbor, aptly named for the Smoking Sea, the inner sea with a perpetual layer of smoke resting above its service. The city is bisected by the Blood River. With the advent of the canal, Nilena Thalor is considered a terminus into the greater Alfar Isles.
