Whylsental, officially the State of Whylsental, is one of the 12 states of Tarper.

Whylsental is located in western Tarper and is bordered by Nordstrand, Longrove, and East Plamyadia to the north, east, and south respectively. With a population of 18 million, it is the most populous state of Tarper. The state is also the most densely populated apart from the three city-states of Bergfeld, Citrone, and Terraum. Whylsental's capital lies within the city of Great River with Rordale being the state's largest city. Whylsental is also home to the Great River Valley Area, the largest metropolitan area in Tarper. The Great River Valley Area is also home to four of Tarper's ten largest cities: Great River, Rordale, Tiliahort, and Frassine.

Whylsental was integrated into the federal republic on 12 September 2001, when it and another six provinces of the National Confederation declared independence and established the People's Alliance. Whylsental consists of the former Strander provinces of Great River, Whylsental, and Sylvat. The state falls into the category of satellite territory and as such receives a greater degree of federal authority.

History

After the collapse of the Covenant Empire in 1301, the land that would become Whylsental was part of the Kingdom of Tarper Superior (contemporarily referred to as the Kingdom of Tarper). The Kingdom broke up in 1335 and became the Duchy of the Grand River, this entity would last from 1335 to 1705 when it was incorporated into the Duchy of the Strand. In the Strand, the Grand River would be further divided into the principalities of Great River, Whylsental, Sylvat, Longrove, and the Ror. After the Strander-Astran War, the lands of the Grand River would be split as the Duchy of Astra would take the principalities of Longrove and the Ror.

Whylsental would remain within the Duchy of the Strand and its successor state the Kingdom of the Strand, after the Grand Nationalist Revolution. This would remain the case as the Strand would join the United Kingdoms of Tarper. Whylsental would first gain independence after the outbreak of the First Tarperti Civil War as the Socialist Republic of Whylsental. This meant an end to 217 years of Strander rule over the land of Whylsental. In the Tarperti Confederation, the SR of Whylsental would petition the federal government to reunite it with the "lost" provinces of Longrove and the Ror. Instead the Ror, at that moment known as the Midland Communist Region, was combined with the Socialist Republic of Longrove and another bit was partitioned to the Plamyadian Autonomous Socialist Republic (East Plamyadia).

The SR of Whylsental was abolished during the establishment of the Second Republic of Tarper. A bare-bones administration existed, as was the case in all of the former socialist republics of Tarper. The Whylsental Provincial Administration was tasked by the national government to dissolve any remaining federal institutions to make way towards a fully unitary and integrated Republic of Tarper. This strategy would be rejected in the midst of the Second Tarperti Civil War as the north of Tarper (which Whylsental is located in) would declare independence from the National Confederation. The Republic of Whylsental would very briefly exist as it soon joined the rest of north Tarper to create the People's Alliance.

After the civil war, Whylsental regained its status as the industrial core of Tarper. Whylsental in the 21st century is a prospering and successful state, boasting the largest population in Tarper. Since 2002, Whylsental has had 5 First Ministers, 2 from the Socialist Unity Party/ Socialist Party of Tarper and 3 from the Christian Democratic and Social Federation.

Transportation

Being the industrial heart of Tarper, Whylsental is maintains a dense and complex railroad network. The passenger operations of the Whylsental railroad network is operated by FedRail under the Whylsental & Western Railway (W&W) brand. W&W operates international routes into Brijnhollow and Plamyadia, regional routes throughout western Tarper, intercity routes, and commuter services in the cities of Whylsental.
