Kingdom of Crethia (1548-1836)
The Kingdom of Crethia was the first unified Crethian nation state. Under Alexander the Great, the Crethian petty kingdoms were united into a single kingdom, with Alexander as the first king. Previously, he was a member of the House of Clarke and the King of Albaine. The throne was transferred from the Clarke Dynasty to the House of Brute through Queen Alexandra's marriage to Earl of Brute. Her son, Douglas II, was the first Brute monarch and the Brutes controlled the throne until the death of Queen Anne in 1731. The throne was then transferred to the House of Forbes through Queen Anne's marriage to the Duke of Rokesburg and King James was the first Forbes monarch. In 1831, the death of Queen Margaret resulted in a succession crisis between her husband the Duke of Tilwall, her first cousin the Earl of Strathschire, and the Duke of Harborough. Following the assassination of Straithschire by conspirators loyal to Harborough, the Crethian Civil War erupted and the Duke of Harborough seized the throne, crowning himself as King Robert. His rule was heavily opposed by the pro-Tilwall and pro-Forbes factions, as well ass a growing republican movement. The Civil War continued when Republican forces seized control of Dunhaven, forcing King Robert to flee. He was killws in 1835, after which a Regents Council formed from royalist forces. Following the royalist defeat, the Kingdom of Crethia was reformed into the Republic of Crethia.
