Oskar III Raikkonen (Born Oskar Emil Axel Jesperi Raikkonen Magnussen, 28 August 1990) is the King of Talvistova. He is the only son and sole heir of King Juren II Raikkonen and Sabina of Fjarora.

Future King Oskar was born at the Winter Palace in Ljustad in the second year of his father's reign as king. As is tradition, he was elevated to Heir Apparent on his tenth birthday, which was celebrated with a state dinner at the Capitol Building in Ljustad. Like most of the royal family, he was educated at the Royal Academy, before graduating to the Axel Arfvidsson Military Institute, after which he completed his obligatory 6 year term in the military, which he served as an Artillery Officer of the Talvistovan Marine Corps. He was elevated to King on an emergency basis in the wake of the death of King Juren and Sabina at the 2018 October Day Bombings.

Early Life

King Oskar was born on 28 August 1990, in the in-house medical center and nursery in the Winter Palace in the heart of Ljustad, Osta, the same as the previous 5 generations of Raikkonen children. He was the first and only child of King Juren II and Queen Sabina. At the time of his birth, he was second in the line of succession, behind his uncle, Duke Emil of Jokulsa. He was baptized at the age of 5 at Saint Johannes' Cathedral, in the first public baptism since King Emil V Raikkonen in 1777. It was attended by the prime minister, several other heads of state, and approximately 500 other persons from various social classes.

In following tradition, he was educated by private tutors beginning at age 5 until his tenth birthday, where he was officially declared the Heir Apparent to the crown, jumping his uncle in accordance with the Right of the First Born. At that point, having finished year 5 of his education, he was enrolled in the Royal Academy for years 6 through 12 of his education. At the Royal Academy, he excelled in the subjects of history, especially on the subject of the two great Heroes of Talvistova: Artemi Kapanen and Axel Emil Arfvidsson, which would greatly influence his choice in his obligatory public service. After completing his secondary education, he opted to enter the Axel Arfvidsson Military institute in the City of Nybæk, making him the first member of the royal family to attend a service academy other than the Crown Military College. There he completed a Batchelor's degree in History, while also completing on the rugby and wrestling teams for the school. He particularly excelled in wrestling, finishing ranked 9th in the 2010 National Collegiate Wrestling standings for the 160 pound weight class. He Finished ranked 33rd in his class out of 250 at the Arfvidsson Military Institute, and opted to spend his 6 year service commitment as a member of the Royal Marines.

Military Career

Due to his relatively high ranking in his graduating class, he was allowed a pick of military occupation, and opted to break the usual tradition of royal family members picking Military Intelligence or Public Affairs by selecting the job of Field Artillery. Therefore, he was commissioned as a Cadet Lieutenant and sent to the Artillery Officer Course at the Nykomi Garrison in central talvistova, where he graduated ten weeks later. Upon his graduation, he was assigned to F Battery of the Second Battalion of the Royal Marine Artillery Regiment and stationed at Pohjoisrantaa Fortress in far northern Talvistova, where he served as an assistant supply officer, before being given the role of Platoon Leader for the Battery's 3rd Platoon upon his promotion to junior lieutenant. During his time as a platoon leader, he was adamant he be treated like any normal lieutenant regardless of his royal status, and was therefore duct taped to the barrel of one of his platoons 155mm M198 Howitzers upon successfully completing their Platoon Firing Certfications, an experience he recalled in a 2015 interview about his service as "enjoyably miserable". Shortly after his time as a platoon leader was completed, he was promoted to senior lieutenant, and elevated to the position of battery executive officer, where he oversaw his battery's participation in the Biannual Golden Howitzer competition, where his battery finished 3rd out of the 25 firing batteries in the Royal Marine Artillery.

In early 2015, his 3 year commitment to 2nd Battalion and the Nykomi Garrison was completed and he was reassigned to the Headquarters Battery of the 5th Battalion, and was sent to the Kapanen Barracks in the capital of Ljustad, where he served as a Battery Executive Officer and then a Battery commander for the Headquarters and Supply batteries upon his promotion to Junior Captain in mid 2015. He would be a Battery Commander for another year, where he was promoted to Senior Captain, and moved to the position of Battalion Personnel Officer, which he would hold until the end of his 6 year service obligation. He was granted his release from active duty in a ceremony on 29 June 2018, and moved to the Lake Hestehode Palace in the state of Gilja, the traditional home of an adult heir to the crown.

Reign

After the October Day Bombing that killed the King, Queen, and 23 others on 10 October 2018, Oskar was moved from the Lake Hestehode Palace to an unspecified location, presumed to be Colonel General Aagaard Air Force Base, while a state of emergency was declared and martial law was declared in the capital and surround area. Outside of the first 3 months of his reign, Oskar has had a much more hands off approach to governance as apposed to his father's very hands on approach, and largely leaves the Prime Minister and National Congress to govern as they see fit, and usually only gets involved when necessary, usually in matters of social welfare and education. His hands off, democracy forward approach, as well as his decision to move away from what is seen as a more comfortable military role and option to join the artillery has led to him being a largely well liked and popular monarch.

Personal Life

Oskar married long time girlfriend Johanna Christensen, a Ljustad socialite whom he met through a mutual friend while at the Royal Academy, in a private ceremony in 2012 after graduating from the Artillery Officer Course. In contrast to most previous crown princes, Oskar led a much more private and reserved life, usually shying away from media appearances and attempting to live a "normal" life. However, after ascending to the throne he has opened up more, giving monthly interviews and state of the monarchy adresses.

Oskar is a lifelong fan of ice hockey, and owned a nonexecutive majority stake in the Junior Hockey League's Nybæk Monarchs, although he was forced to sell the team after becoming King. He has maintained his charity, The Ice Hockey Is For Everyone foundation alongside former Talvistovan National Team Captain Joakim Nygaard, which distributes hockey equipment and education opportunities to underprivileged communities, and preaches the importance of sports and community to the youth.
