Byennorde is the capital and most populous city of Byennordvest. As of 2021 the city had a population of 607,000. Byennorde is the cultural and historic centre of Byennordvest. Byennordvest lies on the northern coast of the Kønsfyord on the Mide peninsula in the municipal region of Byennorde. Since the creation of the Kønsfyord tunnel in 2003 Byennordvest is connected to the Groda pensinsula. The main rail operator in Byennordvest Solla runs metro services in the city which reach almost all of urban Byennorde. There is also a wide reaching light rail system also run by Solla. Byennordvest was first mentioned in the 7th Century BC as a fishing village and quickly grew due to its advantageous position on the Kønsfyord. The city became the capital of the Duchy of Byennorde when it was granted city status by Grand Duke Roska in the 11th century and after the unification of the Duchies of Byennorde and Trølland it became the capital of Byennordvest in 1092. The city grew into a major trading hub as Byennordvest grew into its current shape towards the Grøff mountains. It atteacted writers like Markus Landsholm and artists such as Katrine Olmann. Byennorde underwent an architectural renaissance during the 18th and 19th centuries which means that the city has a very classical mixed with gothic feel. Byennorde is characterised by canals, leafy parks and gardens, winding streets and harbours.
