The Progressive Workers' Party is the major centre-left and social democratic party in Uskad and is one of the three major political parties in Uskad, along with the centre-right Conservative and Nationalist Party, and the United Liberals. It has been the main governing party of the country since becoming the largest party after the 2019 general election. It was founded in 1948 as the successor to an already notable Uskadian socialist organisation, the Socialists and Workers Association.

The party rose to prominence during the 1964 general election, which it campaigned for workers' rights and closer relations to the Soviet Union. Despite the CNP winning the elections, the PWP became the official opposition to the CNP government. During the Tirto ministry, it opposed nuclear weapons development, and pro-business policies. It later won the 1974 general election, gaining a majority in Parliament and forming its first government. It governed again in 1984-1994 in a coalition government, 1999-2011 under Ruben Sasanta, and later in 2011-2014 under Talin Jemenak, the country's first female Prime Minister.

It has governed the country once again since 2019, first under PM William Sarbalsta, and current incumbent Prime Minister Peter Marjuana.
