The Scho-5 Class is a Janpian steam locomotive in 4-6-2 arrangement designed by Ischuju Hasahari, and built by the Scho-Gusan Heavy Industries (Now owned by the JaRail Workers' Union). It was built from 1913 to 1940 from the Scho-Gusan Heavy Industries, where it operated in various railway lines in Janpia, as well as in some various Janpian colonies such as Polavosch or Unschon Islands. Production halted in 1940 due to the civil war, and it only continued after the war under the Party-run JaRail Workers' Union. During its service, the trains were popularly known as the Workhorse, as well as the "Usori Gijoschei" (Smoking Lady). Production and its service continued until 1976, and has since been retired from main service duties in both cargo or passenger roles, as part of the Party's railway modernization plans. It is still sometimes used on limited express lines, or sightseeing lines which were formerly defunct or abandoned lines.

History

The Scho-5 train is the brainchild of Ischuju Hasahari, who was commissioned by the Scho-Gusan Heavy Industries to design a train to be used for mainline duties. At that time, the Scho-5 was the fastest and largest steam engine locomotive produced in Janpia, making it suitable among many steel industries and transportation companies. It was first and mainly used in the Kalivosch-Dalschiagogusun Main Line in 1913 and has since been expanded on to different lines such as the Kalivosch-Marischa Main Line, or the Dalischiagogusun-Ritoschino Point Main Line. It was also exported into some Janpian colonies at that time, such as Polavosch or the then Unschon Island colony.

During the Great War, the trains were used for the mass relocation of people with Kaichren ancestry and other nationalities, and the trains were also known for bringing them to the internment camps. Production of the trains only halted during the Janpian Civil War, partly due to the chaos and the subsequent union takeover of the Scho-Gusan Industries. During this time, however, the trains were widely used as a means to transport supplies and soldiers, and they were often used as a spearhead on offensives, reformation, or large-scale maneuvers. The Scho-5 was notably known for being one of the All-Union Party's spearheads to the city of Agribov, and has contributed as well to being the main logistics carrier during the Marischa Offensive.

After the war, almost half of the Scho-5 fleet was destroyed, and production once again began, this time under the JaRail Workers' Union - Industrial Bureau. However, with the rising costs and introduction of electrical railways, the Scho-5 trains were slowly retired from mainline service. Production finally halted in 1976, and the last Scho-5 was finally retired in 1990 from the Mingschu-Chinrigusan Line. It is still subsequently used on some limited express lines or used along sightseeing lines, which were repurposed defunct lines. 

In popular culture

The Scho-5 is widely regarded as a symbol of the Janpian industrial revolution, while the Party regarded the trains as the symbols of the revolution. A limited train line known as the Revolution Express still runs a Scho-5 in its lines, mainly taking stops on historic cities or passing alone railway lines used for the Marischa and Agribov Offensive.

The train is also well-popular among other Janpian media, such as in the novel Kahasu (Snake). It is also featured in other animations such as the Asaschikan Express, which was modelled from a Scho-5 train on display at Marinosch.
