The Summerside class heavy cruiser is the oldest ship in the Cheonghae Defense Forces, which began production in 2224 and has been in use until now. The Summerside class heavy cruiser was a ship developed to replace the Princess Patricia class heavy cruiser, which has been operated as a ship responsible for the center of fleet firepower. Currently, the Summerside class heavy cruiser is an old ship over 40 years old, but some systems, such as armament, have been modernized.

Development

Description

Armament

The PIC-02 ion canon, the main arm of the Summerside class heavy cruiser, is an early type ion weapon, and the weapon equipped in 2224 is still used. The PIC-02 ion canon has improved performance and has the same power as the modern ion canon, but it has only four launches per minute, making it difficult to fire quickly compared to the modern ion canon.

Unlike the ion canon, which was not replaced due to the complexity of the system replacement process, the railgun has been replaced with the modern one. The RG-07 anti-ship heavy railgun is a modern railgun with significant improvements in power, fire rate, and bullet speed over the conventional RG-01. The replacement of the railgun greatly improved the firepower of the Summerside class heavy cruiser and it contributed to the cruisers being able to remain active for a long time.

Protection

The Summerside class heavy cruiser has a strong armor compared to other modern cruisers. This is because the shield technology at the time of 2224 was less advanced than that of modern times, and the armor was used to compensate for the shield's lack of defense capabilities. The A-041 High Power external shield generator, which is operated by the Summerside class heavy cruiser today, has been used since 2224, but the power of the shield has improved significantly and has the same defense effect as the modern shield. However, unlike modern shield generators embedded in the surface of the ship, the A-041 shield generator is attached to both sides of the ship and accounts for a significant portion of the total volume of the ship.
